Lefty, I have a VS-1824CD myself so I may be able to help some. I agree that the VS-Planet is an excellent place to go for answers. I was told that there's a VS-1880 video manual (none for the 1824) and I ordered one over the phone from Guitar Center, but the one they sent me was for the 1680. Still...

I think that Roland Virtual Sound Canvas might get you most, if not all, of the way there. I'm fairly sure that it can rip (encode) a MIDI file into MP3 format. Musicmatch Jukebox can create standard audio CD's from MP3 files or if you just want a CD-R of MP3 files you can use any CD burning program...

Radio Shack sells a preamp that will connect to a magnetic phono pickup and output a line level signal. I bought one about a year ago. I think it was around $30US. It uses a 9 volt battery for power. Something that I think is a little funny is that I remember when magnetic phono cartridges were new ...

Mike Brown Vegas 400 Repair Cost
Mike, I'm about ready to ship one of my two Vegas 400's off to you for repair. How does it work? Do you have a flat fee for repair or will you let me know after you look at it? Also, I'd like the mod put in it so I need to know the cost of that as well. Thanks, ------------------ Rick Richtmyer Suga...

Is there anything portable that gives you 4 or 6 or 8 track simultaneous recording? The Roland VS-1824CD will record 8 simultaneous tracks and play back 18. I have one. They've actually been discontinued because Roland seems to be putting a big divide between their Boss, consumer-ori...

If you don't get any other LTD pictures first I'll open up mine and shoot a picture and E-mail it to you. It doesn't work, but that won't matter for the picture and it's never been modified.

Profex II Software Patch Editor
As I mentioned in another thread, I recently purchased a Johnson J-Station. It came with a pretty nice patch editor that runs under Windows (I think they make a Mac version as well). Does anyone know if a similar patch editor has ever been created for the Profex II? It would be a great thing! ------...

I have a home project studio based around a Roland VS-1824CD. I recently purchased a Johnson J-Station for $149 and so far I like it pretty well. They've been discontinued so the price is dropping quickly. It has a 24bit SP/DIF output which is great with the Roland. So far I've only used it in its &...

Great stuff! Thanks! In my collection of Peaveys I have a Session 400 (2/12 model, I bought it at a pawn shop 20 or more years ago). The reverb long since quit working but I don't care since I prefer digital reverb anyway. At this point it's the best working amp I have. I also have a non-functioning...

Vocalist Replacement
This looks like the end of the need to deal with temperamental vocalists.

Mike, as I said above, the maintenance level was extremely high. To my knowledge, other than tremolo, which was built into many amps of that era, there were no other effects built for the guitarist. It predated the Hammond spring reverb (and I thought it was a much cooler sound) and the fuzz box (I ...

An Ecco Fonic! Wow, I thought I was the only one that ever had one of those. I bought one from Chuck Levin's music store in DC sometime around 1960. I don't think that the Echoplex was on the market yet. At the time I thought it was the neatest gadget that had ever been made. Actually I know that Ch...

Thanks for the reply (on both boards) Robert. I'll give that a shot. I connect to the VS through a Steel Driver II straight into the Hi-Z input, so it's probably similar to how you're going in. That sounds pretty fair just by itself but it still lacks a little punch and clarity. I'll check out the T...

Roland COSM Amp Simulators
I have a question for anyone who has worked with any of the Roland VS digital recorders: Is there an amp sim that sounds good with steel guitar, specifically on C6th? I was fooling around with a kind of swing oriented tune that a friend of mine wrote and I found that the "Country" (or some...

I have a Rio MP3 player, the same size as a Sony Walkman. It plays CD-Rs that I create myself using Musicmatch Jukebox on my computer. I can get better than 8 hours of music, indistinguishable in quality from a standard audio CD, on a single CD-R. And if you feel like it you can used CD-RWs as well,...
