Thanks Michael, That fits. And so does the mounting for the cover plate. The owner claims a lack of comparison experience, but thinks it sounds like recordings of other B6's.

Magnatone Maestro

I believe Jay is right. I've seen a couple of these come through the shop. And they were identified as Maestros. I think they come from about '50 to '58. The photos I have are stored on a hard drive several removed from present, but (if memory serves) they looked quite similar.

Consensus of 2

If 2 can make consensus, then consensus we've got. I recall visiting with Jason Lollar and a few others about the faux Rick horseshoes. This was many moons ago. Personal experience says Ric stopped supplying horseshoe pups in 1971, meaning the last year they were available was '70. And from the earl...

Rick nails it

Thanks Rick. I thought of you right off when I saw this pickup. I think you hit it right on the money. Now the mystery narrows to whether there are other such 6 string pickups out there. What's consensus on a guess this was a factory job? I can see putting a 6 pole bobbin inside a bass enclosure. Wh...

Rickenbacker B6 pickup oddity

Anyone seen one like this or know anything about it? The owner sent me these photos. He's had it for about 20 years. This is the way it came when he got it. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1205/10293_Rick_B6_Solidtop_Pup_from_neck_1.jpg http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1205/10293_Rick_B6_...

Compact lap steel

Very cool looking design.
For clarity's sake; The player, Junior Dornelas, is credited with the build.
The language is Portuguese.

Lollar sued by Rickenbacker

I saw this & it brought to mind Ben Miessner's horseshoe pups & patents in the '30s. He had 10 related patents issued & other patents pending before 1938. I'm wondering if their history might play into this issue & help Jason. Note to self: Write Jason regarding this. Note to forum: ...

Thanks for the response(s). Richard, nice examples. Your photos are great. The detail illustrates the fact the horseshoe look is simply a cover plate. That is just as expected. So now the question is just whether the 2 p'ups are in phase or not? Humbucking or not? John, Good point. I've never really...

?s on a Vega pickup? Claims to be 1st humbucking (in 1930s)

There's a lap steel on ebay making that claim. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Vintage-1930s-Pre-War-Vega-Electic-Lap-Steel-Guitar-/110795799740?pt=Guitar&hash=item19cbf1bcbc#ht_1078wt_673 That'd be way before Gibson's claim. Like decades before. So I searched & looked up the patents that might...

Well....For the record. I posted this 'cause nothing much (other than tuners) seems typical. Not even the OAHU decal. I haven't kept track of how many Oahu's I've seen, but I'm guessing it's well over 300. And (it may be due to an aging memory), but I don't recall seeing an OAHU guitars decal that m...

Jason,
Remarkable resemblance. Maybe it's a Model 0.1 pickup.
I wonder what Turner & Bartolini would think of the old round pup?

Ricky connection with Melotone

Hi Friends, There is a Melotone lap steel listed on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270690340286&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_500wt_1156 Apparently modeled after a Ricky B6. But, other than the p'up & maybe bridge assembly, the parts do not appear to be Rickenbac...

Thanks Brad, Good information there. It seems the:
notable difference is the through body string arrangement on the 700, where the 500 strings through the bridge block.
puts this one in question in the 500 series category.

Which specific models are you looking for? The Rickenbacker archives on their website are not complete, but give a pretty good idea of some of their earlier models. Right now just this guitar. I was able to link via what you provided on the 700 series. But I haven't found any data on the 500 series...

Thanks Guys, I was leaning to the 508 & 718. I'm not familiar enough with these series to tell the difference btwn the 2.
Brad, I tried to search the Ricky archives & didn't find links to any other specific steel guitars. Any tips?
Thanks again.

Anyone able to place this console?

I'm particularly interested in identifying which p'ups this has. I don't have much data to accompany the photo. Other than it being described as a 1970 Console Steel. It's a 3rd party sale & they don't know anything about it. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0912/10293_Rick_3_neck_console_1...
