Thanks Bob...I got your email and I will probably call after the holidays and see when we might get together. I would love a chance to pick the brain of a more experienced player for awhile. Have a Merry Christmas and I will phone after the New Year! Bill

I'm in the Auburn area, but willing to travel for some distance. Actually live in Cayuga, next to the lake...so heading south to the Ithaca area is a definite possibility.

Larry, your offer is great but my current day job prevents me from heading down during the week days.

Central New York steelers?

I live in the finger lakes region of central New York, and am looking for any steel players in my area that might be able to share some teaching time to help me progress a little more as a player. Anyone close by that might be on this forum? Thanks, Bill

I have pretty much done the same thing as you by setting aside my guitar for the steel. I find that the more I come to understand the steel, the more my guitar playing improves when I do decide to play it. I wouldn't worry about losing your guitar skills if you devote more time to learning and playi...

1. Learning? I am always learning. Hope I never stop while I'm on this side of the turf. 2. Playing in a group? I play steel as often as I can, although I am a guitar player most of the time. I would rather play the steel. 3. Jamming (Kanikapila) ? I don't jam much. but I play in two bands.... 4. Te...

I vote for the Tru oil also. I have always had great results with a Tru oil finish.

I've been on a stage or two where the light level was so poor that I couldn't see the fret markers if I wanted to....and just had to play by feel and memory. IF you learn your grips and have a good ear for pitch, it all falls into place without a negative effect on the music. Fun and effortless with...

Newbie question....

I have an old Blanton 4S10 that I am currently playing. I only have one knee lever, which is an E, and the pedals are a zero, A,B,C. The question I have is for the zero pedal, which lowers the third string a half step. What is the purpose of this pedal as far as chords? I can't really figure out any...

I may just give some of those options a try. Has anyone ever tried any of those modulation shift devices that do the chorus in octave? I don't want to lay out any bucks without some points in the right direction. Thanks.

My old amp was a Peavey KB100 keyboard amp with a 15 inch speaker. I had to use a pedal reverb, as the one on the amp didn't function. I never was satisfied with the tone I got from the old one, and the new one fits the bill with both guitars. I have a Rogue Blues distortion pedal that sounds great ...

What effects can I use?

I just bought a new Peavey Nashville for my lap and pedal steels, and I can believe the difference in tone I get compared to my old amp. Now I want to add some effects pedals to alter some of the sounds. What has worked good for you fellas? I currently play outlaw country music, and some southern ro...

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm glad to be able to post now....and no doubt will have questions too. I love all of the links you guys post to the YouTube videos that you do. I'm a better learner when I can see what I am listening too, and know what is happening to make the sound. Keep it up!

Hello from another newbie

I have been lurking for years, and finally decided to jump aboard and say howdy. I have been a guitar player for years, but the steel is something I have only been enjoying for about five years. I started with a quick lesson from Herb Remington, bought some of his tab, and have been progressing (slo...
