Would anyone be interested in a web site specifically for hosting pedal steel songs by us regular players?

I wouldn't mind hosting such a site on my own comercial site. Or if there's enough interest, I'd even consider a dedicated site for the purpose.

My idea is to post .mp3 files of "us guys" playing whatever songs. You could send me your own .mp3 files, or a cassette tape of your playing which I could convert to .mp3.

Anyone interested?

I think there's a way to do this for instructional purposes. I suppose if some tablature was included, it could be considered an educational site. Also, I'm a teacher so I am an educator by trade.

Still, the original question remains. Anyone interested in submitting some of your playing? I could link the .mp3 files to tablature. Original tunes would be welcome.

I had also considered something like a monthly newsletter via email. So there would be no cost or at most a very minimal cost to receive it.

Well, all I need is for folks to send me some of their playing. Either .mp3 or a cassette or CD or whatever. If you can't convert it to .mp3, I will do it.

This is a wonderful idea. (The mandolin cafe already hosts such a page.)

Leslie, you can send .mp3 files via email. Although some email servers have a limit on file size. If you had to, you could snail mail a CD. But I could probably create a form to upload the .mp3 files directly to a directory on my site. Thus making email unneeded.

I'm bumping this trhread because I feel so striongly that it would be the best thing to happen to our community since the forum itself got started.

Many of us have done some recording. I urge everybody who possibly can to to participate in this most worth idea.

I'll set up a little corner of my web site this evening. You guys start sending me some tunes and I'll put them on the site. Be sure to include your name and any info you want included with the song. Tablature to the song is of course welcome too.

Just kidding, Gary. I've posted several tunes on the forum, all with the intent of getting others to post their stuff, as I'd like to hear what everybody plays.
So naturally, I think this is a fabulous idea.
I'm amazed that somebody would take it on himself; but it's a labor of love, and you're obviously a music lover.
(What I meant was 'as soon as I get my pedal steel....)

Hey, Gary! I think this is a great idea. You said you are a teacher. I taught in Lone Grove, Plainview, and Konawa school districts, a total of 15 years in Oklahoma's education system myself. I now live in Tennessee and teach here. I have been playing steel now for nearly a year. I would like to know more about your idea, since I could use a lot of help and instruction myself. I'm learning fast, but I need more acceleration, so this should help. Thanks a lot!

Uhhh...in order not to be illegal and ruffle anyone's feathers, they'd have to be your own original songs, and not someone else's. You couldn't post whole songs of copyrighted works, even for educational purposes.

Per the Copyright Law of the United States, Title 17, U.S.C.
Lyrics and Digital Reference
Section 102, Fair Use Guidelines For Educational Media, paragraph 4 Limitations for Time, Portion, Copying and Distribution, paragraph 4.2.3, it says...

Up to 10%, but in no event more than 30 seconds, of the music and lyrics from an individual work (or in the aggregate of extracts from an individual work), whether the music work is embodied in copies or audio or audiovisual works, may be reproduced or otherwise incorporated..

This is a great beginning.
Now, I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you haven't heard, but it's time to rip some of Larry Bell's tunes on to the site...

But I have a question.
Kay Das and I have a tune we've been working on between Lubbock and Singapore, but it's not pedal steel. Is this strictly for pedallers?
