S. Garrish, T. Lawrence, Pedobro ?

Post by David Holden »

I was learning some parts off of some Tracy Lawrence songs (in particular, If the World had a front porch) and the dobro part sounds like he's making some steel licks.

I know Sonny Garish has done the steel and dobro on alot of Tracy Lawrence's stuff. Does he play pedobro too ?

Speaking of Pedobros.(If that's how it's spelled) Is Paul F. the only one that plays one of these ? I've never actually seen one. They sound really cool though.

I think Sonny Garrish uses a Pedabro, as well as Mike Johnson and of course, Paul Franklin. I would be interested in knowing who all out there has one. Awesome instrument!

A few years back ('99?) Carson's Pedabro was behind the table at Paul Sr.'s booth in St Louis.

I think I remember it had a normal PSG neck in front of the Pedabro neck.

I know I remember wishing I could buy it.

In 2002 Hal Rugg played in St. Louis together wMike Auldridge and Jim Heffernan as "Resocasters". Hal played an acoustic Pedabro (Franklin) that had to be miked. They sounded great, there is also a CD available called "Resocasters". Great Music!

Kind Regards, Walter

I have what I believe is the Pedabro that formerly belonged to Carson Chamberlain. At least, the young man (from Kentucky) that I bought it from in 1995 said he bought it from Keith Whitley's steel player shortly after Keith's death. It is #003 and it does have the steel guitar neck on the back. Heavy as a tank, but what a cool instrument. Works great in the studio.

ATTN: MANUFACTURERS

Here's your chance to grab the future by the horns. Here's what we need:

1. One neck for the PSG that has some type of universal tuning that gives you the best of the E9 and C6 worlds.

2. The other neck the pedabro neck, or similar. Something that gives you a dobro sound with pedals to get the pedabro sound.

3. Compact enough to lug around from gig to gig, and to set up on stage without taking up half the stage.

4. Affordable enough for the common man.

5. Durable enough to withstand the rigors of playing gigs. Mechanicaly sound.

6. Since the name Pedabro is already taken, we call call it something like the Dobredal Steel ?

Any other suggestions ? Any manufacturers up to the task ?
