Shutting Down Web Site

Posted: 17 Apr 2003 4:48 pm

After much thought, I have decided to shut down the Rebel™,Ricky and Jeff web site. I find that it is taking up way too much of my time and I still have so much music that could be added to it. Also, Ricky and Jeff are much too busy to keep up with the requests for tab.
It's been a good run and I thank you all for the support you have shown since the site has been on-line. Perhaps down the road, I will bring it back.

I am sorry to hear about this decision...
Is it a MUST to take the site "down"...? could it not just stay as it is, and post that you are not updating it currently, so that it could remain a resource?

Any chance of making copies of the tabs/clips available on CDRom (i.e. even if one copy is made, I"m sure there are a few on here who would be willing to make some copies etc.

just a though

I echo Dave's comment above. If it's possible to just let it stay up, so people can still benefit from all the great work you guys have already done, that would be wonderful. You don't have to keep adding to it, if you don't have the time. If there's a financial reason why you'd need to take it down, I'll bet there are a bunch of Forumites (myself included) who would chip in to help keep it afloat.

PLEASE! NO! Your efforts on the Rebel and Ricky site are most appreciated. The sound clips are 101 Steel Guitar, they are an education like no other. Please reconsider!

thanks,

I'm with Jim. I have spent hours listening to all the great steel on Grahams site and would like to thank all involved with it for teaching me what no collage music education could. The tab was also great to see!

Whatever happens, thanks for your efforts. The site has been a fantastic resource. I'm with Jim - seems a shame to lose the benefit of all that work. Your efforts have been appreciated.

Gotta chime in with the "just leave it up amd don\t worry about the updates" crowd. That's a real serious resource, especially for newbies like me....

Much thanks for all your work, whatever happens...

Yes Graham....it is sad if you guys truly must go! I consider your site, plus bOb's Forum, the two best sites that the web has had to offer the steel guitar player since the web started. Thanks to you, Ricky, and Jeff for doing it for these last few years!

all the best, Rick

You have my thanks for the many hours of dedication it's taken to maintain.

I have to concur with Jim Cohen here, please keep the site up and don´t worry about web site costs. Like him, I´d be more than happy to chip in to keep it up and running the way it is, with no need for updates.
Your site is an invaluable treasure chest of learning material both for the beginner and for the advanced, and to have it disappear, would really be a loss to the whole steel community. Please find a way to keep it up.

Yes, as others have said, thank you very much for all the time and effort you've put into the site! I'm a new steeler and it has been a wonderful learning tool for me. I only wish I'd spent more time there now that it is going offline. If you do decide to keep it going in its present state, I would also be among those willing to contribute.
Whatever you do, know that your work is very much appreciated.

A big oily tear fell from my Sho~Buds' changer when I read ur post. There's such a wealth of info, brought together in a thoughtful & intelligent way, that rewards and kudos are way long overdue. Just want you guys to know that what you've created is monumental, and I'd stand in line with everyone to do whatever it would take to keep it alive! Everlasting gratitude Graham - Rebel, Ricky, Jeff, and all who have contributed! Cz Image

Graham,
how big is the site, how many MB's are we talking about?
How about one or some of us taking over?
just a thought...

Maybe you could just leave it up, but with no more updates, and no more tab requests taken or replied to.
This shouldn't be too expensive or time consuming like that

Please don't let this resource just disappear. We beginners need it....and there are clips with tab on there that we know we will need next year or the year after. The CD idea would be great. I would buy.

This really is a great shame. You guys have done a wonderful job with the site, and I wish you all the very best for your future projects. There are so many people out there who have cause to be enormously grateful to this site and it will be an absolute tragedy if it does indeed close. There has to be a constructive way to keep it going somehow.
[This message was edited by Ken Byng on 18 April 2003 at 05:30 AM.]

How sad! Just tried to access the site and it is gone. Sort of like the loss of rare museum pieces, only this is the loss of "Steel Guitar Antiquities".

Johan, the TAB and Soundclips section of that site is only 55 Mb big.
