Using Line6 Pod

Has anyone use Line6 Pod in studio or live and what were your impression of this unit. I know guitar players love them.

Rusty.....my experience with the POD is kinda limited, but I've had really good luck with a borrowed Johnson Millenium "J-Station"
(Johnson's version of the POD).....so far I'm knocked out!
The whole trick with either unit, I've been told, is to access the deep editing capabilites with your computer. The edit program for the Johnson is killer!
One day I brought my whole live rig into the house and A-B'd it with the J-Station until I matched both of them.... frequency for frequency....nuance for nuance. Through the board or through my Session 400.
I've already done a session with it, and it was a big improvement over my previous "direct to the board" system. I really feel that virtual speaker/amp combo's are getting closer & closer to being nailed by these cool little boxes!
One of the things about the J-station (vs the POD) that I like better for steel is they have bass amp/speaker models that you can tweek to get the high headroom that we need.

Now I just have to buy one of my own Image

I updated it to Vs 2.0 and finally got a half-way decent steel sounds, but it's still a disappointment. Works great for guitar, though. You should definetly check out the Johnson and the Bass POD by Line 6.

I have one, and while it's great for getting a lot of different guitar sounds, I've yet to find a setting on it that's appropriate for steel.

And now Yamaha has their version...the DG-Stomp. Best thing is to order
them thru one of them mail order places
that gives you 30 day approval. Then
send back the ones you don't like.

Wow, I have yet to find a setting that isn't useful in some situations on the steel. Of course, I don't play guitar, so I look to get those sounds on the steel rather than the guitar. My only problem with it is that the default gain structure for the clean amp models are too distorted, and the effects are nothing to write home about. But the amp and speaker sims are pretty effective, I think (especially the high gain ones).

I recorded my Tele direct with a line 6 pod and got a fabulous sound...it was better than a 64 deluxe that I cut other parts with!

The only thing I found is that I loved the Tweed sound, and maybe the blackface sound and could live without the rest, which is a lot of baggage to pay for.

I've had one for quite a while and like it, though I do find that on clean settings that the noise floor is too high (too much hiss). Interestingly enough, I have found the Mesa Boogie Mark 1 clean sounds (available through "deep editing", now available from the front panel on Pod 2.0) to be some of the best clean tones, so POD users should check that out.

I've found that most POD users are younger players looking for heavier, distorted tones. The POD does those pretty well.

Its been a while since I tried it, but I
remember the dirty sounds being more real
than the clean sounds. I would like to try one through a good tube power amp and
speakers, but then the whole idea is to bypass that stuff. I think its going to be
a while yet before they really nail the
complexity of a great amp.
Something to keep in mind , would you rather
have 1 incredable tone or 10 average tones,
especially for recording, live is maybe more
forgivable due to all the variables.
The more I think about, the more I would
go for 1 killer tone. Greg
