This is a matter of my own curiosity after seeing the posts on square necks. Back in the dark ages (1956 or so) my father bought my first guitar. It was a cheapo I guess and used, and it had a square neck, something I had never seen in my limited experience. It looked like a plain old guitar to me and had 6 strings and was hard as hell to play because of the square neck and high strings off the fretboard, but I managed to learn a few chords and such. Is it possible the guitar I had was meant for the lap and not for regular playing? Were such things made then? Is this the answer for what I thought even then was such an odd guitar?
