Hi , and sorry for not getting back sooner , I haven't been here in quite a long time and was surprised to see this thing up here
Hopefully this is the file that was up on the site . Skip T , the problems you have with that other page relate to the html " textarea " tag . Click once in an area then use your cursor control keys instead of those " small " arrows . If you want to print anything off it I think you can print a screen view instead . It's only one html page so it'll work offline too .
Here's copy of the tetrachord file I have left on my hdd .
<font face="monospace" size="2"><pre>
I've divided this into five sections ,
( A ) MODAL scales with their roots on the 8th string E
( B ) How it works , using the key of C as an example .
( C ) How I visualise the intervals using tetra chords
( D ) How I visualise the whole lot put together ( after all the waffle )
( E ) Disclaimer ......

***************************************************
How it works , using the key of C as an example .
***************************************************
(1) First I locate the notes of the Major scale along the 8th string E .
This finds me the root notes for each of the modal scales .
___________________________________________________________
E 8__________8__10__12__13____15__17__19__20__________________
D 9___________________________________________________________
B 10__________________________________________________________
( . . .---. ) ( . . .---. )
C D E F G A B C
(2) If the song is a three chord trick you could have , C F G7 , or a 1 4 5 .
This tells me to locate the 1st 4th and 5th notes of the C Major scale on
the E string , as these will be the root notes for their modal scales .
(3) A modal scale only rotates through the notes of its Major scale , but using a
different starting point .
For C Major , the scale is C D E F G A B C
For the F , the scale is F G A B C D E F
And for the G , the scale is G A B C D E F G
(4) The reason it works is because if you take the G scale for example ..
G is the fifth note of the scale of C Major .
Playing the three chord trick , you would play the G7th as the fifth chord .
You have the notes of G A B C D E F G .
If you take the chord as being made up of the 1 3 5 notes of this scale ,
1 = G 3 = B 5 = D . This is the G Major triad .
But if you add the 7 note of this scale , you get F natural as opposed to F# .
This flat 7 makes it a G7th sounding scale . The rest work in the same way .
(5) The relative minor of C Major , is A minor . The 6 chord .
So the modal scale is simply A B C D E F G A .
1 = A 3 = C 5 = E . As you can see , the C natural , makes it a flat 3rd .
This makes it a minor chord . You get a minor sounding scale .
(6) The scale of B = B C D E F G A B . 1 = B 3 = D 5 = F .
This gives you a flat 3rd and a flat 5th = a B diminished triad .
(7) Finally , for harmony and obviously two steel parts or more , pick
a mode and also the one which is two above or two below it .
Example the chord of C , the first two notes of which are C and E .
You can play the C Ionian and the E phrygian over each other note for note .
**************************************************************
How I visualise the intervals using tetra chords
**************************************************************
Gaps between the dots represent a whole tone , the space between the parenthessis
also a whole tone , and the line joining two dots represents a semitone .
These patterns are to remember the intervals of the scales . They do not always
contain the same notes .
So I visualise a Major scale as ( . . .--. ) ( . . .--. )
That could be C Major , G Major , or any Major scale .
Here I've numbered the different tetrachord structures as I see them .
This isn't theory , just a shortcut for me .
1 = ( . . .--. )
2 = ( . .--. . )
3 = ( .--. . . )
4 = ( . . . . )
Each Tetra has to have four notes .
Tetra 1 has the semitone on the right ,
Tetra 2 has the semitone in the middle ,
Tetra 3 has the semitone on the left ,
Tetra 4 has no semitone in it at all .
So I visualise the different scales as being a combination of two tetra chords .
The thing to remember is that this is only to visualise the intervals of the scale .
and not the actual scale itslef .
For example ,
Tetra #2 = ( . .--. . ) and could contain the notes A B C D ... or ... D E F G .
Again using C as an example .
Tetra's #
C D E F G A B C
1st IONIAN ( . . .--. ) ( . . .--. ) ( 1 , 1 )
D E F G A B C D
2nd DORIAN ( . .--. . ) ( . .--. . ) ( 2 , 2 )
E F G A B C D E
3rd PHRYGIAN ( .--. . . ) ( .--. . . ) ( 3 , 3 )
F G A B C D E F
4th LYDIAN ( . . . . )--( . . .--. ) ( 4 , 1 ) *
G A B C D E F G
5th MIXOLYDIAN ( . . .--. ) ( . .--. . ) ( 1 , 2 )
A B C D E F G A
6th AEOLIAN ( . .--. . ) ( .--. . . ) ( 2 , 3 )
B C D E F G A B
7th LOCRIAN ( .--. . . )--( . . . . ) ( 3 , 4 ) *
* = If either of the tetras is a 4 , there is only a semitone between the tetras .
**************************************************
How I visualise the whole lot together
**************************************************
Again in the key of C for example .
