New Steel Guitar EP

Post by Mikiya Matsuda »

Hello Steel Guitar Forum!

Last summer, I recorded a short session of standards with two of my favorite players here on the West Coast. The immensely talented Cody Farwell mixed and mastered the record and it’s now up on Bandcamp. For those keeping score, I used my D8 Joaquin model Clinesmith with horseshoes through a Skip Simmons rebuilt Stromberg-Carlson PA head. A6/F#9 tuning on all the tracks.

If you’d like to check it out, here are links to the EP plus a video of one of the tunes (more to come)…

Samuel Wolfe Rocha -bass
Josh Collazo - drums
Everett Katigbak- videography
Cody Farwell - mixing & mastering

Hope you enjoy it!

Hello Mikiya,

Very nice music. I perceived it as a nice blend of 5/8 Jazz and 3/8 Hawaiian with an emphasis on a dreamy, lush fat sound. My blood pressure was down about 20 points after listening. :-) I liked the video; very peaceful!
blah, blah, blah.

Great stuff Mikiya. So relaxed, dynamic and "spatial"!
