Id an ole Gibson lap steel?

Post by Duane Becker »

Can someone help give me some info on this Gibson lap steel. I may want to sell it too. I don't do much with 6 string lap steel, and really out of the loop on value and history of these Gibsons. Was it a good steel? Any value to it? It works ok, sounds good, and seems to have no pickup issues either. Thanks for the help.

That's a fairly rough-looking -- but seemingly original -- Gibson BR-3. An estimated 1300 were sold between mid-1946 and late 1947.

That one will have the very nice oval or racetrack single coil pickup. Happy Trails. MikeC

Duane,

That BR-3 is junk. Don't mess with it. Tell ya what I will do. I will give you shipping cost to Newnan GA and I will let it languish with my two Gibson BR-9s. After it has cheered up a bit by being with other Gibsons I'll rebuild it and put it back to work. What do ya say?

Ok, just kidding. Looks like it does need some work. If you want to sell it send me a PM and we can talk. I like bring old guitars back to life. Just finished my 1936 National New Yorker. See the story in this forum.
