Hello Austin

Post by Jim Peter »

My wife and I will be in Austin Texas March 6 & 7 and I was wondering if there was someplace we could go to listen to some live country music. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are a good number of country music venues in Atx. Sagebrush, The White Horse , The Broken Spoke, Sam's Town Point and The Continental Club are the predominate five.
'78 Sho Bud Super Pro, '90 Mullen Pre-RP D10, '60s National Grand Console, '41 Kalamazoo KEH, Various acoustic and electric 6 strings and an assortment of amps, effects, gadgets and other party tricks.

Butch Hancock and friends at the Sagebrush on the 6th, lots of good stuff, my wife is visiting earlier in the week!
Have fun!

Definitely the Broken Spoke, Butch Hancock and Asleep At The Wheel, if they are playing.
Antone's & The Conntinental Club are great clubs too.

I'll be playing with Chaparral on the 6th at The Broken Spoke and then on the 7th at Central Market westgate.

From my perspective, Australian, you can have great country music just about anytime in Austin. Try to catch forum member Ricky Davis with Weldon Henson band at the Broken Spoke for Two Steppin Tuesday. Talk to people at the first few venues you get to and they will put you straight about where to go to see the best.

I highly recommend Chaparral with Bob on steel at the Broken Spoke! If you're really feeling it there's a good band down the street at the Highball called Fingerpistol at 7:00 and you can end the night at the White Horse for Aaron McDonnel and Theo Lawrence but it will be packed.

That's a pretty darn good Thursday!

Thank you very much for all of the suggestions. I don't think we can hit all of those places but we will do our best. :D

You have to do The Broken Spoke, just to say you did. :-)
If you get to go and see Ricky Davis, that is just a double bonus.
