NEW Session-LTD Preamp Pedal from Peavey

Post by Bill Ferguson »

Update: As of today, I have listed over 50 PRE-orders for this unit.

I have just received word that the first production run of this preamp pedal of the ORIGINAL Peavey Session 400 preamp (first steel steel amp from the early 70's) is scheduled (not promised) for May 2025.

I am taking Pre-Orders now.

At this time, I don't know how many of these I will receive from the first batch, therefore these will be First Come / First Serve item.

I don't have an exact price, but AS OF NOW, the MAP price will be right around $200.00.

If you would like to be on the waiting list, please EMAIL me (not PM, not Phone) your information as follows:

Email address

I will create a Wait List and notify you via email when these are ready to ship.

Testing of this product has received great reviews. I know the prototype is a Super Duper product.
I am using mine into the Post EQ input of my Nashville 112 (in order to use the internal reverb of the Nashville 112) and it sounds very close to the original Session 400, only with a 12" speaker.
I have tested the Session-LTD pedal also with my NV112 connected to the new Celestion 15" Neo that will be used in the upcoming Session/Nashville 112 or 115 amplifier from Peavey (hopefully in the next few months.

Kudos to Hartley Peavey, John Fields (engineer) for continueing there longstanding support of the steel guitar.

Bill, the preamp pedal sounds like it would be a great addition to a power amp
and lightweight cabinet.

Excuse this somewhat uninformed query, but does this work when plugged into an amp, or is it best simply driving a speaker-cabinet?

IF it's run through an amp, how should the EQ be set on the amp?

I ought to know this, but I don't. :(

Roy, short answer, it certainly is! Bill sent me a prototype to try. I did comparisons with several different amps and speakers, and my favorite chain was as follows:
Mullen G2 SD-10 with single coil pickup
Goodrich Omni in passive mode
Nux Atlantic reverb/delay
Session-LTD 400 pedal
Jay Ganz Straight Ahead power amp
Peavey 1501-4 in a closed back cabinet
The settings that I liked in my music room were just as great on a gig. We all encounter rooms that need a tweak, and having the preamp at your fingertips will make it simple.

It's just a preamp Rog, so you can't use it alone to drive a cabinet. A power amp is required. A good dedicated stand alone power amplifier is good or you can use a combo amp.

In the case of Peavey amps or other amps with a PWR AMP IN jack, you can bypass the front end, preamp section of the amp and use the new pedal to work your tone.

For combo amps where you can't bypass the preamp, you'd need to set the eq controls flat, neither boosting or cutting frequencies, to use the controls of the Session preamp.

Of course you could tweak the integral controls of the combo amp as well, but usually stacking of preamps not really great.

Please read the post again. There is a power amp in the chain.

If you can find a used Quilter Tone Block 200 or 201 it should make a good warm tone power amp for the Session 400 pedal.

Roger, I have basically the same equipment as you. I have an Omni pedal,
A Nux reverb/delay pedal, a Straight Ahead Amp, and a cabinet I built in my
woodshop with a Peavey 1502-4 speaker. I am looking forward to trying the
new Session-LTD preamp pedal with it. I can compare it to my Peavey LTD
amp I have (with a JBL speaker). The LTD amp sounds so good, but it is very
heavy! I also have a Quilter 202 I have tested with my setup. It sounds real good
but not like the Peavey LTD amp! Thanks for your post, Roger!

Bill or anyone, would there be a better signal to have a delay and reverb pedal after the Session 400 preamp pedal, then into a power amp making the chain similar to the loop input/output on a combo amp?
