Modern country songs

Post by Natalie Ronson »

Can anyone recommend some modern country songs (90s onward) that work well on lap steel? Lots of pedal steel songs out there but I'd love some suggestions on what would be fun to play on my non pedal lap steel (even if it wasn't originally played that way)

I think this one would be more appropriate:

In terms of playing those songs on lap steel, I think it will depend on whether or not you're using eight (or more) strings, and what tuning you're using.

Look up Lee Roy Parnell. His slide guitar playing is top shelf and would sound great on lap steel. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ckxkS9TPbkk

Brad thanks for posting. My lap steel is an 8 string A6 tuning, will be trying play along with a few if I can ever get off the pedal steel.
Will probably try playing the psg along with it also.

Almost forgot about this Southern Pacific song. It’s more mid-80’s country rock than 90’s, but close enough. Some great lap steel playing by John McFee.
