Harry Belefonte singing Gordon Lightfoot

Post by Richard Alderson »

This year in other sections of the forum various members first noted the death of Harry Belafonte, and then within the span of a few weeks, also of Gordon Lightfoot. This video features both of the two recently deceased icons at the same time. It is a VERY slow ballad by Mr. Harry Belafonte singing a Gordon Lightfoot song. It demonstrates how they have been connected for over 50 years, and now again in a coincidence of passing within weeks of each other. Belafonte got some traction from this particular song, it was featured on one of his albums for a time, and was penned by Lightfoot.

Thanks for sharing that.
I had not heard Belafonte's version of the song.
It is totally different to the original but he makes a new song out of it!
