Unique vibe. This is a round neck but could be an interesting look for a lap guitar.

That's the first new design I've seen from National that I would consider buying (if they had a squareneck version). Elegant.

I agree

I agree with Brad except I'd prefer at least 7 strings for A6th. :D
"Elegant" is what Brad said and he's 100% on that.

I was given a tour of National five years ago and I played a prototype metal roundneck Scheerhorn (with a “c”). It was a nice guitar.

In the past Bill Asher occasionally offered the Electro-Hawaiian Jr. lap steel with some cool pinstripe schemes. I wonder if this was done by the same guy as on the Asher guitars?

Bummer about the damage on the top. In this instance of a guitar that might have been finished like a hot rod from the likes of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, that area sticks out like a sore thumb.

Andy, they do a fair amount of custom work at National, and it’s possible they could accommodate your wishes - though they might not have any 7 string necks ready to go in the warehouse.

But if it were doable, I have no doubt they would be happy to take your money. 😉

I think that perceived damage is a reflection of fluorescent lights mounted on the ceiling, as you can see the same pattern in the same region on the rear of the instrument.

Don’t know that I’ve heard a spider bridge metal bodied guitar. Neat instrument.

What Rob said; not damage, just a light reflection.

Well that particular reflection threw me off. The latest photo from Andy is the ticket. I scrolled too quickly and didn’t bother to notice the background, which is the National shop in San Luis Obispo.

It's a beauty. The paint scheme (minus the pinstriping) reminds me of my dad's '59 Rambler.

Here's a look at the high skill level needed to do pinstriping technique properly.

It is a very cool look.....Now if we could just get National to reissue Square Neck Guitars like the 1920s Tricones with the full metal up the neck. As far I can see from their website they don't even offer the Wooden Square Necks.

Steven, I saw it on Facebook not on their site. It looks like a one-of custom, rather than a stock guitar. I'm sure that for enough $ you could have one just like it.

Thanks Andy but I really should not add to my Scheerhorn collection but that is one unusual guitar,

Chris I played a reissue squareneck tricone made of brass when I visited the NRP factory a few years ago, I was blown away by the sound. I think the price was around the same price as a vintage one.

And a great work has been done on this custom Scheerhorn, for sure !

They were happy to take mine back in around 2006......National made (for me) a custom 8 string squareneck Tricone Style 3.5 (engraving throughout the coverplate as well)....Lily of the Valley......

Beautiful guitar Howard. I'll bet when you play that one, if you have transitions lenses in your glasses they turn dark. Don't play that one outside on a sunny day, you're likely to start a brush fire. Super craftsmanship. It's one thing to lay pinstripes, it's quite another to engrave intricate designs on metal. Whoever did the work on that beaut.......KUDOS to you! :D :D
