Presonus Studio One Free!
Great software. I downloaded and it is a fully functioning version of Studio One. It doenst come with all the effects that the Pro version has but it is well worth the price for all the other stuff it offers.

Greg,
Studio One is great.
You should also get the Ozone Elements mastering plugin while it's free. You can't master in the free version of Studio One, but if you're only doing one song, you can drag the Ozone plugin into your master fader and use it just like you would mastering a group of songs.

Just to be clear, for us tech challenged dinosaurs....
I'm just looking for the easiest and most painless way to a finished MP3 file.
You can record, add effects, etc using Studio One Prime.
You will have a bunch of individual tracks when you're done.
Then you need to use Ozone to mix/master down to a stereo two tracks. This will be a WAV file.
Then, if you want to burn a CD or make an MP3 version/file, you need some other program to convert from your WAV stereo master to an MP3.
There are a lot of free programs on the net that you can download to do this.
I *think* that Audacity will, but I'm not sure.
Do I have it right?
Probably not.
Thanks in advance.
