Thin, flexible, plastic D’Andrea thumb picks seem to reduce tendonitis pain slightly—maybe needing less muscle power when speed picking?
They sound good and, since they’re thin, they limit string attack, which helps smooth and blend the overall sound.
Other brands drive bluegrass instruments well, but, since we’re electrified, it’s possible we don’t need that much punch.
Emmons and Chet Atkins both dabbled in D’Andrea from time to time: the picks’ shapes are haven’t changed, but the material might be different now—who knows?
What do you all think? . . . are nylon picks popular for the same reason? . . . are stiff thick plastic picks still the way to go? |
