Newman instructional material

Post by Mark Robinson »

I have an issue.

I have a lot of Jeff Newman instructional videos along with the tablature that comes along with each video including:

Pedal Steel Guitar Techniques 1&2

Steel Guitar Jubilee

Just Play The Melody

E9 Chord Dictionary

Up From The Top D Lever

Up From The Top F Lever 1&2

Pedal Steel Guitar Illustrated

Bandstand Backup 1&2

Give Me An Intro

The Seventh Chord Connection

The Minor Chord Connection 1&2

C6th Swinging 1&2

No Speed Limit.

My problem is I no longer have a VHS player and would like to have the CD/DVD's instead of the VHS format videos.

Does anyone have experience with VHS to CD/DVD or is that unethically reproducing someone's copyrighted material, or is it possible to have a home VHS to CD/DVD machine that does this?

Perhaps just buy a VHS machine?

I really would like to avoid repurchasing the courses I have, if possible.

Thanks

I don't believe it would be unethical at all if it's for your own use. In fact many years ago I asked Jeff if it would be a problem if transfered my VHS tapes to Beta format,he laughed and said you can do anything you want after you've bought them from me!

As long as you own (bought) the material legally, I do not see any issue from a fair use standpoint. Again, I am not a lawyer but as long as you use it for you only, I think it not a problem.

I have a VCR to DVD burner that works really well. Some VHS tapes were coded with anti-copy that doesn't permit you to copy. But most independently produced videos transfer easily.

Thanks for the replies.

Trey, what make and/or model of burner do you have?

It's a Toshiba. No model/name listed on it.

Again, thanks for the replies. Trey, thanks for the response.

Turns out, Melissa, over at Jeffran Music has a great solution. She sold me just the DVD's without the tablature.

Very helpful.
