I'm looking for an inexpensive 10 string steel-type board that I can sit on my lap to drill my right hand. I have seen such a thing, but although it looked well made, it was kind of pricey. It does not need to be amplified. Any thoughts?

Years ago Chris Templeton was generous enough to make one of these for me. It is nice. Don't know where he is these days (Maui?) but there is another Forum member searching for him too.

Thanks for mentioning my site. The practice guitar is avalible in any string configuration.
the one pictured is the 19 inch scale, to fit in carry on luggage on a plane, but can be 22 1/2 24 1/4 or really, any scale.

Also, I'm working on a prototype with an onboard headphone amp.

And thanks to Bob for this Forum.

In my opinion Rex is the guy! Great work and a great guy, an honest craftsman. He has done much work for my company and is one of the folks we trust most for any wood working jobs. Just plain , "the best".

Rex you may be able to sell this little
"fellow" minus the pickup also as a practice guitar which really started this thread.
Without the pickup the price would decrease dramatically I would think?
Could you comment on that prospect?

I was just going to post this, when I saw the comment by Roy. Yes, I have been asked about a pickup free version. The guitar, like it is in the picture is 395.00 plus shipping.
without the pickup, 295.00
That would be for the short [ 19 " scale]or full scale model.

Here are some noodle boards I made out of "Mukwa", an African hard-wood.
This wood came from Central Africa and was used as railway sleepers.
Mukwa wood can only be harvested when the tree is between 100 and 120 years old. The sleepers were made about a century ago and have been in the African rain and sun for over 80 years before it was bought up for furniture. So the wood is about 200 years old.

I made the 12 string out of 2 layers and the "catcan" is only one layer of wood. The single layer of wood is strong enough to take the stress of the 8 strings.

The 12-string has a George-L pickup and the 8-string has a J-bass pickup.
The 12-string sounds better than my S12 Remington with a Danny shields pickup. The J-bass pup sounds very single-coil like.

If there is enough interest, I will start making single layer guitars (without pickup and strings) for a reasonable price. (Ballpark at the moment: $90 without shipping from South Africa)

Howard, if you want the wood to age to 300 years, I recommend you wait 100 years to place your order.

The prototypes took me a month. As these guitars are intentionally kept simple to keep the cost down, I think I can make them in 2 weeks. Shipping time depends on shipping options. I would like to make a couple at the same time. So I may be waiting to collect a few orders. I can do them any scale, any stringspacing. Fretboards as illustrated. If you want your design on it, it will cost 2 million dollars. (Just kidding).

The no-pickup item sounds interesting. It really depends on how many you have to make.
