101 Hot and Sassy Steel Licks... PART TWO

Post by kevin ryan »

Finally…. I finished …”101 Hot and Sassy Steel Licks … PART TWO!!!” It’s been along time coming. I did part ONE in 1997. All advanced phrases, Knuckle busters, Ballad ideas that I use, Pop sounds, minor playing, the intro to “Josie” by Steely Dan... Banjo-forward roll phrases, open string licks, 1-4 fills that work really Tastefully.. NO CLIQUES! NO Standard stuff…. We all know that stuff. Very challenging though. There is So Much included... Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

I have had the pleasure of hearing Kevin play these licks and there is something here for everyone and is a terrific and welcome addition for anyone who wants to deepen their bag. Really a nice job Kevin- thanks!

Hey Jim... thanks, I really tried to put together something that is not available anywhere and that really can help players spice up their bag a bit with some really head turning phrases and choices of notes.. It was a labor of love. When Winnie Winston's book came out... that was huge but that's all we had... So I hope this is really what players are looking for... I have had some great feedback so far.. Your's was super special...thanks!

I bought vol 1 & 2, as Kevin is doing a great deal on the purchase of both volumes together. There is something for everyone here, from beginner level, through intermediate and advanced. Kevin plays the licks at proper speed first, then at a slower pace. For 50 dollars, there are enough new E9 licks to keep most players occupied for some time. The tab is accurate (not all tab on the market is by the way) and once payment is sent via PayPal you can download the files immediately.

Well done Kevin - great product.
Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Infinity SD10 (4+5) Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Telonics TCA-500, Webb 614-E,

101 Hot and Sassy Steel Licks... PART TWO

Post by Rick Merino »

Hey Folks,

I'm a new member, but I've received a great amount of information on this forum, so thanks! I'm very happy with the purchase of pt 1 and 2 of Kevin's programs. As a long-time guitarist and more recent pedal steel enthusiast, I've been looking for an organized collection of licks that I could assimilate and make my own. While I love copying licks from LLoyd Green and all the greats, I also enjoy sharing ideas with contemporary players. For me, this program is similar to sitting in with a more experienced player and picking their brain.

Kevin is really bringing a lot of great steel guitar wisdom from his years of playing and teaching experience. Each one of his "sassy licks" will open up a world of ideas for anybody lucky enough to learn one. I guarantee it! Well worth it!

I just received volumes 1 and 2 this weekend for 50 bucks. There is a lifetime of licks of all variety's in these 2 books. Everything from slow, fast, western swing, open string uses, counterpoint, I could go on and on. I can't thank Kevin enough for all the work he put into these 2 books, easily one of the best deals going on the forum right now.

Thanks everyone who has purchased my lessons... I really hope it helps you open up some locked, hidden doors.... I will be teaching intermediate to advanced seminar again this year in Phoenix.. I have a really great class put together and really think it can help in a big way for players like myself that always want to get to that next level... Hope to see some of you there.
