Hey everyone! I'm going to open up this topic so that you can give me the tunes that you would love to have tracks to play along to. I am hoping this fall to do a very large batch of tracks that I'm going to specifically arrange for steel guitar. These tracks will all be using real instruments!

I would really enjoy some Buck Owens w/ Tom Brumley ( under your Spell Again, Above and Beyond,High as the Mountains,etc.) I really love the "west coast/Bakersfield" style that Tom ,JD,Rusty Young ,etc popularized.....Stormy

This might be outside of the scope of what you're looking to do, but my absolute favorite resource ever for country music is a book by Brian Fullen (with Roy Vogt" called "Contemporary Country Styles for the Drummer and Bassist".

In that book and accompanying CD, produced in the 90's, they cover 12 different song forms, which they call "Focus Grooves": Country Pop, Rock, Funk, Two-Beat, Train Beat (medium and fast), Cajun, 3/4 Waltz (straight and shuffle eights), Ballad (straight and shuffle eights), Shuffle, Rock/Shuffle, Western Swing, and 12/8 blues.

For each "focus groove", there's a brief history, an original track recorded with studio musicians with playing suggestions, written charts and variations, and a recommended listening list (mostly 80's and 90's radio-songs, due to when the book was published).

What I love about this is that it's a very comprehensive, well rounded, and well thought out book/CD package for folks who really want to understand the musical styles, instead of just buying tabs to random songs.

If I could find something like this for pedal steel, I'd be in heaven!

All the Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and Charley Pride tunes of the late 60's to early 80's where the steel was prevalent. These are the songs that engrained the beautiful sound of the steel guitar into my kindred sprit and led me to want to try to play this bad boy. Still trying, but need all the help I can get.
