Taking Requests for Play-along Soundtracks!

Post by Zane King »

Hey everyone! I'm going to open up this topic so that you can give me the tunes that you would love to have tracks to play along to. I am hoping this fall to do a very large batch of tracks that I'm going to specifically arrange for steel guitar. These tracks will all be using real instruments! :D :D

Just in case you haven't seen my latest offer, I have been giving away my CD "Made Of Steel" along with the 10 soundtracks. Most everyone seems to really like it. So get your copy too by simply emailing me at zaneking@me.com

NOW - tell me some tunes that you want me to record and at some point soon I will get us some great sounding backing tracks!!!! :D :D

Zane King Backing tracks

Post by norm mcdaniel »

Zane I see you have several backing tracks for us less informed pickers. I was listening to some of your tracks(songs) and wondered if you have Blue Eyes Crying and Amazing Grace. I am really impressed by your versions of them as well as nearly all of your other songs you do. How do I get them. Keep on playing the great stuff you do. We are really Blessed by your playing

:) I would really enjoy some Buck Owens w/ Tom Brumley ( under your Spell Again, Above and Beyond,High as the Mountains, etc.) I really love the "west coast/Bakersfield" style that Tom ,JD,Rusty Young ,etc popularized.....Stormy :)

This might be outside of the scope of what you're looking to do, but my absolute favorite resource ever for country music is a book by Brian Fullen (with Roy Vogt" called "Contemporary Country Styles for the Drummer and Bassist".

In that book and accompanying CD, produced in the 90's, they cover 12 different song forms, which they call "Focus Grooves": Country Pop, Rock, Funk, Two-Beat, Train Beat (medium and fast), Cajun, 3/4 Waltz (straight and shuffle eights), Ballad (straight and shuffle eights), Shuffle, Rock/Shuffle, Western Swing, and 12/8 blues.

For each "focus groove", there's a brief history, an original track recorded with studio musicians with playing suggestions, written charts and variations, and a recommended listening list (mostly 80's and 90's radio-songs, due to when the book was published).

You can see and hear examples on Brian Fullen's site, here: http://www.brianfullen.com/countrystyles.htm

What I love about this is that it's a very comprehensive, well rounded, and well thought out book/CD package for folks who really want to understand the musical styles, instead of just buying tabs to random songs.

If I could find something like this for pedal steel, I'd be in heaven!

Just wanted to express my thanks to Zane for making this wonderfull CD [and tracks] available to download. Zanes rendition of "Amazing Grace" is probably the prettiest I have heard. I sent track suggestions by e-mail. Thanks, again, George

Steel Tracks

Post by Bill Findlay »

Zane:

I think tracks for steel instrumental should go over.
Instrumentals like

Boot Heel Drag
Steeling the Blues
Georgia Steel Guitar
Panhandle Rag
Steel Guitar Rag
Roadside Rag
Remington Ride
Spanish Eyes
In the Mood
B Bowman Hop
Steel Boogie
Destroyed the World
Texas Playboy Rag
Bud's Bounce
Making Believe
Sleep Walk
Seems like having these all on a CD
would be a lot of work out.

Thanks

G'day Zane, just want to thank you again for your very generous album offer, which I'm enjoying greatly. 8)

My list: "City Lights" & anything Santo & Johnny!

Also, anything Rob E G.(Robert Porter) but especially, "Si Senor" "Whiplash" etc. etc. etc.

Yes, YOU certainly can play anything on Pedal Steel. :D

Cheers from Oz, Allen.

All the Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and Charley Pride tunes of the late 60's to early 80's where the steel was prevalent. These are the songs that engrained the beautiful sound of the steel guitar into my kindred sprit and led me to want to try to play this bad boy. Still trying, but need all the help I can get.
Thanks for your kind offer, Mr. Zane!
