Taking the opportunity to meet one another...

Post by Dick Sexton »

Sometimes it seem like I just can't or don't try to get out of my own little world. Practice, write, shovel snow, mow the yard, gig when I can. Not able to travel far, I haven't made it to the big shows.

Last night the opportunity presented itself and I was able to meet forum member Lane Gray. He comes from a family rich and deep in music history. Over supper, he related his experiances of being instructed by some masters of the instrument. And his playing being influenced by that. Of course I had driven a ways to the meeting and he was working, long haul trucking, so we didn't hear each other play, but the conversation was good, informative and energising. I'm looking forward to my practice session this morning.

Enjoyed meeting you Lane, be well and keep on trucking, maybe we'll get the opportunity to hear each other play one of these days.

Point... Take the time, make the effort, there are interesting people and players out there. Put a face to those posts. We're a special breed, us steel pickers.

Dick,
Nice post and you make a great point. I Knew that Lane drives over the road but didn't realize that he made it to Ohio. For some reason, I thought he did a dedicated run out west. I've really enjoyed reading Lane's postings and bet that dinner with him was a great time.

I Live and London Ohio and spent most of my life on the road as a driver and then as owner of a Heavy Haul/ Rigging Company. I got out of that business a few years ago and I'm really enjoying being home more.

My band plays around central Ohio 2 to 4 times a month and would love to have you stop by sometime and do some picking. Lord knows I need to learn some new licks. Don't expect me to return the favor... I've not been playing steel very long so you won't get much from hearing me.
