WTB, Antique Radio Cabinet

Hi all, I have a new project in mind. I want to put a tweed Deluxe or Champ or? circuit amp in an antique radio cabinet. A living room amp if you will. The cab and number of "knob" holes will determine what I build.

I need the cabinet! Empty of course, or quite dead. I'm looking for something table top or a floor model built to house a 8-12 inch speaker. I would pefer the cabinet to be wooden. It is dificult to internally modify plastic cabs.

What a super idea. Everyone should have the sleeper amp like this in the living room. Dang, I want one.

This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. Now, I'm going to make the time.

The project will no doubt require a custom chassis but hey, I got an "A" in metal shop.

some woodworking magazines and such have plans for cabinets such as you are wanting. If you are good with wood work you may give building your own cabinet a try . Would probably be cheaper than shipping an antique.

I'm good with wood but lack the tools to build one myself. If I can't find somthing I may have to resort to this.

I don't know if you've already thought of this or not, but: Have you checked out auctions/estate sales? I know that at least here in the Midwest they happen all the time; heck, there's even a weekly auction that happens a few miles down the road just chock full of old farmhouse leavings: Furniture, gimcracks and the like. Anyway, my point is that pretty much every other week there's at least one old, internally-busted-but-otherwise-fine radio offered up at that weekly auction, and they usually go cheap 'cause they're dang near a dime-a-dozen in these parts. You can usually find them at the aforementioned estate sales too, and they don't often go for much at those types of gatherings 'cause folks are generally looking for fancier, more valuable antiques.

I'll tell you what: If you look around out there and it's no dice so far as auctions/estate sales go, or if for whatever reason old-fashioned wood radios are going for outrageous prices out your way, I'd be more than happy to go to that weekly auction and grab you one. You just let me know what your spending cap is and we can go from there. About the only issue I can think of with this scheme is shipping it, but I'm sure we could figure something out. Let me know!
