" When We All Get It Together" Bishop R.P. Hall

Post by Bishop Ronnie P Hall »

Hey my fellow steelers!
Try this toe tapping, foot stomping, rendition of a congregational song as the music was played back in the day. I hope you will enjoy it as much as the fun I had doing it! Be Blessed!!! :D

Bishop Ron -

Really reminds me of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken". Might even play it in church this AM.

GOOD STUFF!

Respectfully,

Richard

Hi Richard, (Damron)
I apologize for being tardy in my response to your encouraging comment. It seems to get really crazy around this time of the year, but I keep trying.
I hope that it went well with the congregation, when you broke out in song! :D ;-) Thanks again my dear friend! Continue to be blessed.

Hey Chuck (Hall)
I apologize to you too, for being tardy In my response to your comment. Yes, I smiled because, I am just as surprised as anyone else, that I got through the song even with the bucket full of mistakes I make when I play! The pressure, the pressure, the pressure!!!   :\
Be blessed my friend!

Hello Bishop Hall

Post by David Hartley »

Very good as usual.
Yes, I enjoyed the whole video and the smile at the end.
Whenever I see and hear Bishop Halls videos, it always amazes me how he gets that unique sound. I don't know how to describe it. A kind of raspy sound. There's a lot of bar hopping there to in his sytle, I am assuming it may be some sort of dobro bar you are using? I am asking these questions to you yourself Bishop Hall but also to other players out there. Is it the guitar, amp, player, bar that gets this sound? Has anyone tried this style of playing on your pedal steel without using any pedals? I bet you can't get the bishops sound? Anyway, to conclude, it's 7.30am, puts a smile on my face too to start the day watching this video. Excellent stuff. Oh, I forgot to mention, early on in that video did you see how many seconds the bishop played with his eyes shut? He certainly knows his way around this guitar.

There's some questions there for Mr Hall and other steel players.

Always nice to see your uploaded videos Bishop Hall.
Regards from David.

Hiya Dave!!! Hartley :D
As a musician, man, you are sharp! I cant sneak anything by you!
Let me try to address some of your observations!
1. Sound. That raspy sound, is an sound of desperation. I just get lucky sometimes, with the inexpensive equiptment I use. But so did Motown, in its early years. It is what it is, and nothing more.
2. Bar Hopping?  Had a different meaning back when I was a young sprout! But I know what you mean now! And you are right. I use a Stevens Bar, that is used by a lot of dobrow players. For me I never could play with a Bullet Bar. My hands perspire, and now, some arthritis, has become my advisary these days.
3. Yes, I close my eyes, especially when I dont want to see what a mess I`m making with my attemps at trying to play the song, that I`m trying to play. Naaaw! It does happen that way when I "feel" the music, that nothing else matters, as it flows from the heart/soul. I guess that is why it is sometimes referred to as "Soul" music.
At any rate, I`m just happy to know that the music makes somebody "smile". That is what I am all about. Be blessed, my friend, and thanks for asking!
"Ron",

I've never seen or heard a Bishop Hall clip that did not make me smile! This is playing from the heart and soul of a man and it is wonderful. He gets more tone and soul out of one fingerpick and one thumbpick than I can get out of 3.
Thank you Bishop Hall. :D

I gotta say...I loved it...if you were feeling presure it sure didn't show, you looked way relaxed to me. I wish I was able to play as precisely with my eyes open as you do with your eyes closed...Good good stuff.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Dale

Hi Dale! (Rottacker)
I`m glad you stopped by. Well, sometimes we all feel the "spirit" as it applies to what we are playing,(or in my case trying to play)(Pressure!) I guess if I close my eyes, perhaps I`ll be the only one to hear the "bumps", and "lumps" along the way! Thanks again my friend!
Be Blessed!
