I had Ralph sign 50 copies of the tribute CD "Moonshine" (below) so that I could take them to the Irish Steel Guitar Festival with me. I still have a few left if you'd like to purchase one (no extra cost for the signature). Ralph plays with me on "Crazy Arms" and so does Al Brisco. If you order one please specify that you wnat one of the signed ones.
I know of no one who deserves tribute more than "The Moon", but it would take a dozen such CDs to even hint at all the tremendous accomplishments of his long career. That's why my subtitle states that this is just a "glimpse" of The Moon.
This is probably the most "Feel Good" CD I've ever recorded. It's upbeat and (I Hope) a lot of fun to listen to. I want to thank, Tommy Jennings (Waylon's younger brother), Fred Jack, Al Brisco, and Ol' Moon himself for participating in what I feel is a very special project which pays homage to a very special musical giant.
The song list goes like this:
1. Moonshine (a cookin' little number the Mooney/Burton album)
2. Merle Medley (Swinging Doors / Life In Prison / The Bottle Let Me Down)
3. Foolin’ (A song Moon wrote and Johnny Rodriquez made famous)
4. Moon’s Mingus Medley ( a compilation of Moon’s solos & intros from the “Country Drifters” album)
5. Mooney Had His Back (a song about Waylon’s respect for Moon. Tommy Jennings sings two verses and the steel takes the rest)
6. Ralph Raised The Bar (an original instrumental)
7. Crazy Arms (also features Al Brisco and Ralph Mooney)
8. Buck Medley (Above And Beyond / High As The Mountain / Under Your Spell)
9. Texas Waltz (my all time favorite from the Mooney / Burton album)
10. Mister Moon (Fred Jack sings this closing tribute to “The Moon”)
The playing time on this CD is 34:00

This is a great CD to add to your collection (mine is signed "Ralph Mooney"). Ralph is without doubt a unique player, and in my opinion his steel guitar style is essential listening (and learning) for all sideman steel players. Mike has made a terrific job of defining some of Ralphs greatest licks.... all on one CD. And practice tracks too; what more could you ask for.
It's also a nice driving in the car CD too The sort of songs that puts you in a good frame of mind.
Hey, Mark. Thanks for the kind words. Thanks also for designing the Steel Mixer. It's a great piece of equipment and it solved several problems for me. I'm looking forward to any future products and additions to the features of your Steel Mixer.
