He had at least two (E)MCI guitars I know of. Does anyone know if they were they all welded frame models? I have to agree with those those who consider the welded frame ones the closest thing sonically to a P/P.

Not that it much matters, I suppose, since he can obviously make pretty much anything sound wonderful.

The one I had had Buddy Emmons stamped in the end plate but I don't know about the welded frame but I think it was...CM

I did the final assembly and tuning on two of Buddy's guitars when I was doing some part-time work at EMCI after Bud Carter left. That was the same time frame when Gene Fields and Red Rhodes were there, so I'm pretty sure they both had welded frames. I don't remember if he had others before the frames were welded.
