I assume you listened to the Alan Jackson/George Strait version. If you can find a copy of that song by David Frizzel, with Johnny Cox on steel, that is a better recording.

I sort of Like the Original version done by Larry Cordle the writer.. Larry had a Dobro instead of a Steel and we all know who that was..It was out over a year before Strait/Jackson and more before david cut it..You can hear Larrys version on youtube...

David's cut was out at least 6 months before the Jackson/Strait version. I have a promo/DJ copy of the CD that I got from David when we did a job backing him at Catfish Johnny's.

Theresa, we are not talking about or knocking your brother, who I assume did the Jackson/Strait session. Just talking about the Singers various versions of the song that have been recorded (at least my comments). I'm probably biased toward David Frizzel since I've worked several jobs (backed) with David and his brother Alan.

It wasn't intended that you would be able to hear that, The Public Video on the announcement panel is a Video of Bob Hempker and Dave Thornhill playing a tribute to John Hughey. The Private Video open to members only and is a link to a Youtube Video of Hank III at Fayetteville N.C.

You are not a member of a Closed and PRIVATE Forum open only by Invited membership only. So I can Only assume you were using Greggs Password, Since he is a member of that forum. In Fact I just saw where Gregg was logged in Tonight.

What Really Irked me about this song by Alan Jackson and George Strait was Strait when accepting The CMA Award , was apologetic about doing it. Betcha he didn't refuse the money.

Now That’s poor Class!

I would have liked the recording better with just Alan Jackson or better still, Little Willie Rainsford. He could have sung the snot out of that one.

I liked both versions, but if you are going to talk about fiddle and steel, then you need fiddle and steel in the song. Yea, Ole George caved in, but I still admire the lyrics and the truth in the song. Just a great ole country flavored tune.

The lyrics hit home and are very true. I'm not knocking the musicians or even some of the songs of the current product that is marketed as "country music" - we've beat that to death on here.

My friend Jimmy Peppers wrote a song "No More Hanks" which is along the same line and is also very true. Peppers wrote "Tonight I Just Don't Give A Damn" for George Jones and it was also true for George, when it was written (and Jones recorded it) in his "no show" days.

Theresa Wow!! For a moment I thought someone had heard me after a bad shot on the Golf course..

Larrys version was out before both other versions..What I liked about his vocals was the feeling and phasing that was coming from the heart of a writer...His vocals probably don't compare to Strait/Jackson or Davids or was the Music production as sophisticated as recorded with an "A" team line-up...Larrys an original and doesn't sound like anybody.. but I'll bet he is happy with the sales by all..

..I also never meant my words to mean I like the Dobro more than the steel...That sounds narrow minded to me...But I do like many other instruments ..

PS.. I think YouTube is carrying the song that offended...John just posted the site for the privacy of members to view and comment on..

I should have gone directly to YouTube and searched for the Frizzel version. When I clicked on the link to John's web-site, I thought it was a short cut to hear David singing it.

I found his rant naive..... I get it... they're an easy target.....Those seeking the truth about what happened can find it in the history books......To omit his name and story from the "Opry's" publishing's is changing country music history.......

Bad behavior has consequences.....At some point, artists/musicians that regularly perform completely intoxicated or continue to not show up for gigs will eventually lose their status within organizations that do not condone that type of behavior. It took George Jones many years to overcome his missteps.

I believe non-stop profanity on stage, shows a complete lack of respect for the audience......Just sayin'

Thank you Mr. Franklin, I don't think Hank III is telling any truth or anything else,he is just using an estalished platform to spew forth profanity as this seems to me to be hs only "talent" and he uses it to get attention. Yes, the original Hank should be a member of the GOO as he helped put it on the map. But then again, Hank made his own bed and caused Nashville to think less of him.
Just my observations, everyone else is entitled to their opinions and I respect that.

Tiny Moore once said to me and Pauls post just reminded me.. maybe not his exact words but close.("The type of crowd the band draws shows the personality of the Band")..Funny I always thought about that but related it to the type of music a band plays..There can be other meanings.

Wally - I agree 100%. When Larry first came out with the song, I thought the same thing. The lyrics didn't fit the bluegrass music. Maybe a hidden motive? Larry probably realized that he'd get some airplay with it on bluegrass radio whereas, as a country song it would get nowhere with him doing it, because he's not established as a singer in that area. It worked and it lead to the cut by Alan and George,..... after all, Larry is a song writer, that's how he makes his money.

I didn't know George S. apologized about doing the song. Shame on him. I've heard him do a lot of other things that I thought would have been more deserving of an apology, to my ears anyway.

As for the video, I found the music as offensive as the language. There's an audience for anything I suppose.

Anyone been to "Dicks" restaurant in Myrtle Beach? Their deal is that they go out of their way to insult you, curse you, bad manners, etc,.... and people eat it up. When the waiter comes out they just throw a pile of silverware down on the table and tell you to hurry up and order because they don't have all day to #### with you. I have to admit, it was kind on fun for a change of pace. The waiter made a hat out of a paper bag and put it on my wife and wrote on it, "this is not the first time I've had a bag over my head".
