This one's for my old friend, Carlue Bordelon ...

Back in my Louisiana days, I met a fellow that became not only a good friend, but like a second father to me. He's a steel player named Carlue Bordelon. Carlue is now in what I think is his mid to late 80s (Charlie Moore can correct me on this if I have Carlue's age wrong). Carlue hasn't been in the best of health this year and I've been thinking of working up a nice tune to play for him. I suddenly realized yesterday (while at Mickey Adams' house) that I'd found it. So, last night after I got back home from Mickey's, I played my steel some more and before bedtime decided to turn on the camera and do a quick video for Carlue.

It's a very nice little waltz called "I Love You So Much It Hurts Me". I just uploaded it and here's the link:

Carlue, old friend, this one's for you and here's hoping you feel much better! I hope I wasn't too sloppy on this tune.

I gotta say that despite being desperately tired and worn out from playing steel at Mickey's all day, this was a fun song to play with all the half pedal technique involved. I can't recall any song I've ever played where I've half pedaled so much in the course of one tune as this one. It was fun!

By the way, Mickey and I did a twin on this song at his house earlier in the day and I believe he'll be uploading it real soon. We had a great time playing, but by the end of the session we both joked about feeling like we'd played a full gig with no breaks. We played a lot of steel yesterday!

Just saw your post. Thanks so much for your comments. I was so worn out when I shot that video that I don't think a pot of coffee would have helped. But, it sure was fun.

Kinda reminded me of some of my younger days when I'd practice literally until I'd fall asleep at the steel and wake up with string marks on my face.
