There is some great pedal steel on this one. Does any one know who the player is?

Recorded in Ireland by Susan McCannn as "when the Sun says goodbye to the mountains"
The version posted above was originally popularized by Lucille Starr (Franco-Manitoban / British Columbian singer) in 1964.
Lucille Starr recorded a 45 rpm called "The French Song" that was produced by Herb Alpert in Los Angeles, California.

Shouldn't that be "When the Sun says Good Day (Hello) to the Mountains"?

?? Why do you need "Backing up"
Two countries separated by a common language..
I NEVER said it wasn't Mona McCall in the clip, I said it was originally popularized by Lucille Starr
in an obviously vain attempt to further elucidate the reader, (For those who actually read what I wrote)

Furthermore, if I HAD said it was, I would have capitalised he name correctly..
Happy Christmas..

Alan being a fellow amateur Etymologist you are (Of Course) aware of the ambiguity of the Irish singer's titling of the song. I wouldn't presume to try to 'hoodwink' you, WOULD I ?

Sorry, I should have played both of the songs first before commenting. Obviously, and this applies to most translated songs, it's not a direct translation since a direct translation wouldn't scan.
Playing the French version, it's apparent that the singer has some sort of Acadian accent, so I was trying to figure whether it was Canadian or Louisiana French. I guess I should read the notes first instead of trying to jump to conclusions.

I'm sure that you do quote, it's considerably easier than formulating, but as for knickers, I (Unlike some) don't wear them.
BTW Ebb why the diminutive 'i' in your posts ? Psychologists are of the opinion that it displays a distinct lack of self confidence, and in your case that obviously isn't so. Somewhat of a conundrum ?

why the diminutive 'i' in your posts
im too lazy to use the shift key plus the psychologists are right

i apologize for contributions that have driven this off topic

my intentions were pure but i now see the wisdom in withholding information

The french title of this song could be translated as:
"When the sun says good morning to the mountains"
You're right on that point Alan.
I think you're also right concerning the French Canadian accent. I doubt it's a French Louisiana accent because it's usually so thick that I cannot understand it myself (no slight intended for our Louisiana cousins of course)
