Bob Lucier – Northern Growl

Post by Jeff Evans »

If you want to hear tone with an über-growl (plus lows, body, substance), listen to this guy. (The thin-and-bright crowd may not dig him, but, geez, they have plenty of practitioners.)

So, for those who've heard more than one Fulawka, are those sounds above characteristic? Do they all tend to be mega-growlers?

I almost passed this up. Sure glad I didn't. Good country steel playing. :)

What a great sound. Is there no video to these? I only got audio on the first one, and nothing on the second one. But who needs video with a sound like this. It was awsome. Larry

Jeff, I would say that the sound you hear is a typical rich Fulawka sound. Of course it is further enhanced by a very able picker.
Bob Lucier sounds good no matter what the brand. With the Fulawka though, he has that edge..and yes a nice growl.

So, hearing tonal distinctions isn't self-delusion?

I'm hearing that growl in spades in the lower register on Bob's instrument.

Are some folks having trouble with or not wanting Real Player? Here are mp3s:
