2004 Excel SU12 Superb! (SOLD)

Check this out 8 pedals and 6 Knee levers. Asking $2000 but will consider offers. Made in 2004 and has served me well. This is a really nice steel and it sounds great. It has a 25 inch Scale and weighs only 45lb in the case. The pedals and levers are pretty standard Newman. Copedent table available on request, or if I can figure out how to put it here I will. I need to cut loose of one of my two steels and I am just too attached to my old Mullen. Hope to sell locally but will add shipping to the lower 48. contact steelgato@hotmail.com 415-847-2332

This guitar has a mechanism to counter "cabinet drop" so with AB pedals engaged there is no change in the other strings.

curious to know if it has lever lock and split tuners
I'm looking to go lighter ,due to arthritus'
I have a fessy Laquer teal green ,split tuners , 8 knee levers;abalone inlay,beautiful tiger maple.3200.00; 2006 model.
I could take a trade if interested or I might have to sell outright.Thanks Chuck Abend

Hi Chuck,
There is no lever lock or tuned splits. I didn't use the lock even when my other guitar had it and I haven't experience tuned splits. Though I imagine it is useful I haven't felt the need for it. The light weight is really amazing when it comes to moving this guitar around, you can actually carry something else at the same time; I'll miss that.

Your Fessy sounds quite beautiful but I am needing some other gear which doesn't happen to be another Steel.

I play one of those guitars and that one does have the ability to have tunable splits. There are a row of 12 holes in the metal ridge between the changer and the pickup and hex head machine screws go thru the holes from the pickup side and provide a split stop at the finger. I don't see any screws in the holes in the picture but they could easily be added. If they are some oddball metric size,you could get them from Mitsuo with one e-mail.

Thank you Michael, There are indeed set screws in the holes. So split stops are possible. There is still no lock though.

Johnathan-I thought all recent Superb's had a lock for B6 and that should have it.That black knob near the keyless tuner looks like it might be their lock..al.

Ok maybe I missed the Split stops but definitely not the lock. The nob is the tuning wrench for the keyless tuner. The lock is installed in my leg and is connected to my brain for convenience.

Jonathan-Thanks for the info. I guess I was mistaken when I thought all Excel Superb U12's had a lock. I had an Excel once a U12 , but not a Superb, but it did have the lock. Oh Well, live and learn, day by day...al.

I think a lot of the U12 Superb's that were made, were basically custom pedal steels and made the way the owner wanted them ....I can't remember really seeing any 2 steels that were EXACTLY alike ....I guess you could get a lock or NOT a lock depending on how you wanted it ... The various hardware would also change from year to year .....Mitsuo is constantly evolving this steel .....It get's better and better every year !!.....Jim

Quite possibly the MOST mechanically advanced guitar made to date.

Very good price on this one............

Oh, and forget about string breakage.

Simply does not happen. Strings usually go dead before they break on these Superbs.

Heck of a deal!

It is true; the strings don't break. That is providing you have used pedal steel strings. I did find that the 25 inch scale did require that I bump up to a .115 or .012 for the 3rd string or I couldn't get it up to pitch. Once this was resolved no problem.

Thanks for the vouching for Al. I just haven't sold over the internet before so I was just going by what I've seen on many other posts where folks limit their activity to the Lower 48. But at this point I believe we are proceeding and the Excel shall travel to England, kind of cool.
