Astor Piazzolla - Steel Guitar Must Tango

Post by Susan Alcorn (deceased) »

Here is a trio version of Astor Piazzolla's "Adios Nonino" performed two weeks ago at the 2640 in Baltimore - Melissa Hullman on violin, Jake Lecke on double bass, and myself on the pedal steel guitar. In this arrangement what we attempted to do was to combine the Piazzolla's written music with free improvisation.

I've always felt that Astor Piazzolla's music was like a bridge from the traditional tangos to a sense of surrealism (which I think exists deep inside every tango) and to other forms of music. Hopefully our approach will do a bit of justice to both.

If it takes a bit of time to load the audio, my apologies. I didn't want to sacrifice too much of the sound quality.

Beautiful-I really liked how you opened it up. This comes from a longtime Piazzolla admirer who isn't generally fond of others' performances of his music. Your interpretation showed a great understanding of his world.
