Can you help me identify this pedal steel?

Instruments, mechanical issues, copedents, techniques, etc.

Can you help me identify this pedal steel?

Post by John Adam Wittekind »

Hello all,

I am new to this forum, so thank you for welcoming me. This steel was given to me by a freind and I was wondering if all you knowledgable pickers could help me identify it's make and also what tuning it is currently set up to be played in. All solid wood (pine?), three pedals, one knee lever.

Thanks again,

John Adam Wittekind.

Looks like it's got some Maverick parts on/in around there.

That looks like a re-worked Little Buddy, judging from the changer and the plastic looking pedals.

How's it play?

edited to add:

it also loks alot like the kit guitar in

I think Walter's link positively identifies this guitar.

The under carriage looks similar to a maverick, but I believe Walter has found the answer. It appears with out a doubt to be the Market-Rite steel guitar kit. Available in the 70's for $149.

As for how it plays, I have yet to set it up fully. Strings are in the post, plus I had to make leg brackets from steel because the old plastic ones we cracked.

I have been toying with the idea of covering the body with some sort of naughahyde. Has anyone attempted this? Any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you for all the help,

Hi John,

I just saw this thread. Your guitar is a MarketRite Mark 1 Thinline Deluxe. I got mine in 1978 or 97. It was a kit; you finished the wood and attached the hardware. And yes, it still works. The only problem is the plastic leg supports, 2 of mine are broken and 1 of those is useless. How hard was it to make the new one out of metal like you did? It still works and was good to start with. If I ever get the legs fixed I would bring with me if I had a long term assignment (I'm a consultant) and leave it in the hotel. One other question, do you know what size Allen key is used to tune it; I can't seem to be able to figure it out.

Thanks and good luck,
MIchael
