If you take another look at especially the 1:38 portion, you'll want to check what his left (Bar) hand (middle finger) is doing, as he's sliding the bar on and off the strings he's picking.

As well as, his right hand knuckles. As has been said, block with anything that works for ya. Many times, it's much more than simply palm (using the flushy portion of your right hand) blocking. Looks to me as if he's using all of the above. :)

PS: I miss the Ralph Em show. It kept us caught up on the happenings taking place elsewhere. He always put on a great show.

Don, that's the 'chicken pickin'' part, right? Yes I can see that he is pulling the bar off but it sure looks/sounds like right hand blocking. Could it be that he's blocking with both hands at the same time to get that clean, crisp sound?
He is one cool dude, sitting there so relaxed and his head tilted, with a half smile on his face. He sure makes it look easy.
Yes, I miss the Ralph Emery show too

Yes, boys, that is some mighty fine playin by all these superb musicians; that's the best I've heard Duane perform; with that kind of working with those great pickers, why wouldn't he sound good.Right? .Bernie :whoa: :whoa:

Thanks Brian.
Eddy is no doubt great. But what would the song have been without Larry Sasser's virtuoso touch? The harmonics are to die for! He brings the song up from a level of ordinary to something special.

Dwayne eddy With Larry Sasser

I just viewed the video at 1:38 and agree with Bent that he is doing the blocking with his right pickin hand. I don't see any thing out of ordinary with his bar hand. And the guy with the other lead guitar is no amateur. I do love those peerless semi-hollow bodied guiyars, such as Dwayne's. Definitely Larry made the song worth listening to..Bernie :whoa: :whoa:

My mother bought me my first "decent" guitar in 1962, after a couple that really tested my commitment to the instrument. A Jazzmaster, an ES-335 with Bigsby, and a Gretsch Tennessean were about the same price. As much as I idolized The Ventures, I picked the Gretsch, due in equal parts to Eddy and Atkins. It confused the heck out of me when Duane switched to Guild. I still prefer the deeper tone of his Country Gent.

While I can improvise like crazy and still get off some blazing licks, I'm not too proud to just play the melody. Thank you, Chet and Duane.

Larry Sasser is a pro in every way. His playing is superb and yet he looks so relaxed and the sounds he can get from a steel are nothing but pure delight!!!
I think he has a website too where you can purchase some of his fine work. He is among the best out there!
