Some Steel 'n Blues in the summer heat

Post by Jan Jonsson »

Hi,

This summer I played with my band Steel'n Blues at Sweden's biggest blues festival. It was our debut performance at that festival so we were quite nervous when we entered the stage to kick off the Saturday night program. Below are some sound clips from the gig, taken directly from the main mixer board. Two original songs and one Billie Holiday song. Hope you like it!

Mean Little Woman

Vintage Vibe Shuffle

Fine and Mellow

That's a terrific band and you're a great steeler. Love those clips, and that young lady is a terrific singer. I wouldn't mind hearing more from you.

Very nice stuff Jan, loved your steel playing. Here is a link to a site where you can here a band I play with do our version of Fine and Mellow: click here. Ours is a more traditional blues version. The two versions make a nice contrast in styles for the same song. :)

Thanks a lot for the nice comments! It's great fun to be able to use the pedal steel in this type of band.

David: That was a very nice version of Fine and Mellow. The steel fits perfectly into the song. I suddenly felt the urge to have a similar raw blues song on my set list, too.

Hello Jan,

I really enjoyed your picking and the young ladies singing. Let's hear more of this kind of performance.

BTW:Are you attending the ISGC in St. Louis
later this month?

Harry: Welcome back to the "D-10 world"! Could we please ask for some nice pictures of your new Fulawka?

Hi Parr,

Yes, I am the current owner of Ricky Davis' blue Fulawka. It has been in my possession for almost three years now and I am very happy to have it. It's a great guitar to play and, in addition, it is a joy to look at everytime I sit down behind it.

Cool! We need more steel players to expand the boundaries of the instrument and bring it into other genres. This is exactly what the steel guitar needs to stay relevant in today's music.
