Hello Steelfriends,
I found a clip from The Gatlins. It sounds like that Buddy Emmons is playing this track. Is that Buddy?
I like the awesome steelsound. Sounds like a MCI

Au contraire
Sounds too much like the original recording, which featured Emmons on steel, to be anything else but that. It'd be impossible to replicate all the sounds of the recording that perfectly, especially in a live environment. Since those definitely aren't Buddy's chops in the video, though, I'm thinking the production was lip- and pick-synced. But all the mechanics, including the pickin' on steel, were executed flawlessly.

Hi Marcel,
Thanks for the email asking the question. The answer is Yes and No. Although I've recorded 17 of the Gatlin's albums to date, there were a few that Jerry Crutchfield produced and he used his crew. Lady Takes the Cowboy was one of those projects and that was Emmons on that recording (wish I could take credit for it), but...that was me on the video.
Just a bit of FYI...I played the original version of "Houston" (with Larry Gatlin producing) and then Jerry Crutchfield was going to produce the other half of that album. Jerry talked the label into ditching Larry's cuts and using his own (Buddy again). I did like BE's version personally. When the Gatlin's changed record labels we re-cut many of the hits including "Houston" and I was playing on all of those. But...I used most of BE's licks and was able to throw some other stuff in there too.
Later,
Mike

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the comments. Yes my ears are right. It was Buddy on the record. I reconize the steelsound.
But you also are a great steelplayer Mike. Wow. you did the orginale song from Houston. I'll think I have that on record somewhere in my album boxes.
So Mike I and other players hope to hear more from you in the future. Maybe in St.Louis I hope.
So take care.
