string gauges balanced?

Post by Jeff Au Hoy »

That's a rather fat gauge for an A. What are the other string gauges in your tuning?

my mistake that string should be .022

tuning "Mel Bay C6th lap steel method".

tuning high to low

1-E-.015P
2-C-.017P
3-A-.022P
4-G-.026P
5-E-.030W
6-C-.036W

It could be the length of string on the back side of the bar is ringing. Do make sure you dampen the strings on the back side of the steel, because that length of string from your bar back to the nut is vibrating unless you dampen it.

The first step would be to replace the string. It might be defective or old.

I meant that you need to dampen the strings with your hand, behind you steel (bar) because of the natural resonance of the string length from the bar to the nut (if you don't dampen it) ON a Dobro, is is very noticable; on a pedal or lap steel, it is not very noticable til you turn down the amp, or if you are not amped and going into a recording console.
