Now, c'mon boys and girls, don't be shy. This is a good opportunity for the right person.

Well, since no one else is asking, and I'm curious . .

Are you parting company with the Moonlighters (or, hopefully, looking to add a second lead instrumentalist to your group)?

You would be a tough act to follow in that band. I wish you and them good luck in your search. It's a great group!

Nope, end of the line for me. I learned how to play on the bandstand--it was my first gig playing steel guitar. Yes, I will be hard to replace, but there will be someone who can do it, no doubt about it.

This is a great opportunity for someone--you'll have no regrets.

If the band wasn't in New York, I'd seriously consider it. I could never replace you, Mike, but I'd love to try playing with that group.

I wish you luck with whatever further musical path you decide to take, and I hope the Moonlighters find a suitable replacement.

Any chance of the Moonlighters moving to Norway?

'replace' not the right word...

Post by Todd Weger »

I'm sorry to hear you're leaving The Moonlighters. Sad news....

I also don't see you being "replaced," Mike. You have a very identifiable style, and would be hard to "replace" that. I think the Moonlighters are really going to sound different with someone else playing those parts.

That said, I'm sure they'll find someone who's very good to fit in, and it will just be that -- different.

Hell, if I lived in NYC, I'd seriously consider auditioning for the gig. Great music done in a really vibrant and fresh sounding way. But, being in Florida, the commute is just a wee bit too far.

Are you going to continue playing? I hope when you say "end of the line," you're just referring to this particular gig, and not playing steel and/or music all together. THAT would just be criminal, IMO.

Good luck in whatever you end up doing.

Oh to Dream

Post by Dan Eason »

Well, I'd have only half the commute of Todd. Hmmmm....the drive isn't so bad, but I don't think I'm quite ready with the licks. I could be your understudy for maybe a year. :? Darn, oh to dream!!

Mike, you're a great guy and a fountain of information and inspiration. You have added so much excitement to the genre of Hawaiian swing music, but I know that that is only a small part of your talents. Keep growing, but we aren't done with you yet!!

Thank you guys, I appreciate all the nice words. When Henry Bogdan left the band, it was very difficult for them for a while. He left a huge void. I really liked what I heard and got inspired to take it on. I hope someone else feels the same.

I will certainly be active, hopefully much more active, and I've got a few great things on the table. I also plan to get back to plugging in, playing more guitar and singing, which is really my passion.

The Moonlighters gig is a good one. I spent a year or so with them and it was good scene. I'll put the word out. If anybody is looking to make the jump to full time player that has the skills this might be the ticket.

If i could commute regularly from Boston i'd do it. Unfortunately I am also hip deep in organizing my 11 piece nostalgia group plus two other bands. if I was a workaholic (I'm not?!) I would so be into the gig. Mike you definitely made your mark with and on the Moonlighters sound and persona!

D'oh!!! Talk about timing. Six months ago I would have been free and eager to relocate. As it is, I'm looking for something like this on the other coast. I love the Moonlighters. I'll be looking forward to whatever you do next, Mike.

Man, this is the second time one of the bands I'd most like to see live split up (well, I guess that's not the case here, but Mike's tricone playing was my favourite part of the Moonlighters' sound) before I get to see them! (The first being the brilliant Mestre Ambrósio from Recife, Brazil). :(

Mike - I wish you all the best with whatever new musical projects you take on, and hope to see you one day after all. ;)

Cheers,

Fred

I'm not anywhere "neer" ready for prime time.....and as long as I'm in business, I would never be able to be available on a full time basis....

This is one fantastic group.....I've probably seen them 30 or 40 times....and when Mike had his first gig with them (The Living Room), if it wasn't his first, it was his second.

I have seen Mike going from being nervous, feeling his way around, playing it safe.....to becoming a master on Tricone with his personal styling.....

well, good or bad, nothing is forever......except that frelling balogne that Harry brought to the RickFest......I can still taste that thing.....
