Operation Russless with Laney Hicks

Post by Bob Taillefer »

I got my copy from Joe Wright in Florida at the Lakeland Steel Show.

Debra and I have watched it many times since.

This is a classic country DVD that everyone should have in their library.

Backing Laney are the following master steel players :

Don Helms
John Hughey
Joe Wright
Mike Sweeney
Ron Elliot
Larry Sasser
Randy Beavers
Doug Jernigan
Johnny Cox
Russ Hicks
Buddy Emmons

If you have never been to St Louis, this captures what you have been missing. Highly recommended!

Regards! Bob

That 90 minutes on that Saturday night was one of the most treasured highlights of my life. I feel honored to have been a part of it. Not only is the music great, but, Laney reading the letters we sent in along with Russ's remarks makes it worth the price of admission.[/b]

You are both RIGHT about this show! We were there and I have never laughed so hard or been so entertained as we were at that show. We don't have the DVD, it wasn't available yet, but we do have the CD and it's awesome! We will have to find out where to get the DVD......to see it again would be GREAT! All of the people involved did a wonderful job and Russ, you were a GREAT sport! Thanks to all of you for the great show and all the work! We can't wait to see you all again soon. Laurie[/b]

You are right Bob, this was a once in a lifetime event for many of us. I have been fortunate to have Laney do a set with me at a couple of different shows.

For this event, I was mixing the sound to go on the DVD. We also had Brad Sarno with some live mics in front of the stage. The combination of the two made for what I thought to be very good sound for a live DVD.

So Russ, where's my royalties? hehe

The DVD sounds really good.

I also enjoyed the camera shots very much.

A night to remember to say the least.

Thanks, Bob, for starting this post and for your comments about the DVD from OPERATION RUSSLESS, LIVE.
I'm commenting also because I'll never let an opportunity go by to say "thanks", once again, to everyone involved in that show. Every moment had it's own "magic", and every song, a different "Star". What a lineup, indeed. It was just lucky for me that Russ has so many "friends"...
Joe Wright did an excellent job putting together the DVD, given the fact that this "live" performance was completely without rehearsal or script...or rhyme or reason.....which is what made it so spontaneously "real". Not one of us knew what might happen next, so, believe me, we were being as entertained as anyone in the house! It has already been said that the evening will be difficult to "top", and there were "performances" that most certainly can never be duplicated, so we're all the more happy to have the DVDs. (I, personally, don't need one; I don't think I'll ever forget a single detail).
Anyone interested in possessing one or more of these historic keepsakes, may order them directly from "us" by sending a check for $35.00, plus $3.00 postage, to:

Laney Hicks...(just kidding :D )

or...

Mike Sweeney was being very humble in his post, (what a talent!) You should know that he and some of the other Stars in this great show also have DVDs available upon request (in case you have a favorite who's cause you'd like to "support")

Thanks for your comments, everyone!

Oh, And Bob, You are right. Laney's one class act. I've never seen her "not on her game" as a singer or entertainer. Not to mention a super person as well as Russ.
If you pick up this dvd and I hope all of you do, You'll see and hear a moment in time that was very historic, musical, funny, and yes magical.
Thanks again Laney and Scotty for allowing me to be on this show. I'll treasure the memory always.

Hey Laney! So glad to get your DVD of the St. Louis gig! It's GREAT!!! We have thoroughly enjoyed it. Every minute. You did a great job entertaining everyone. Your singing was wonderful, as always. You gave a great "read" of each one of those letters the guys wrote! They were all hilarious! I loved your comments....so perfectly placed and said. You certainly gave a "special delivery" of each letter! You are quite the little performer, my dear!! I'm so proud of you....all those "sisterly genes" or whatever kicking in again! It goes back to our childhood. As I watched the DVD, my mind would see you at all ages "way back when". And.... speaking of ages...you truly look HALF your age! That would be about 15, right?!! :) And...oh, Laney...you know I thought of how proud your Mama and Daddy would be of this special performance! How I wish they could have seen it, but then again, I must trust that God surely gave them the perfect "balcony seats"! I encourage EVERYONE to order a copy of this "legendary" event. It is one our family will watch again and again! Laney is one of Nashville's treasures, for sure...not to mention the exceptional pickers and steelers featured on this! It is truly a "must have" for your "most special" country collection. Here's the info again to order your "Operation Russless, an Evening With Laney Hicks" DVD; just send a check for $38.00 (that's $35.00, plus $3 for shipping) to Laney & Russ Hicks, 1020 West Sears Road, Pegram, TN. 37143 You'll be so glad you did!

If you missed the show, Don't miss out on owning this piece of history. As Laney said, This set is going to be a tough one to top. It was a pure joy to be a part of it and listen to ALL the great music being made and the wonderful job Laney did in narrating the whole deal as well as keeping us in line.
Credit should be given to Randy Beavers for instigating this wonderful joke that became a great c.d. plus this super fun set in St.Louis. So, guys and gals, don't let this DVD slip by you. You'll be glad you ordered it.
