Rick Campbell wrote:What a waste of Paul Franklin's talent. I hope the money was good. That band needs a steel guitar like a country band need a tuba.
Rick listen to Dire Straits on the night, or even better watch the dvd !!!!
You will see how Paul complemted that band, listen to the solo on walk of life !!!!
Because there a rock sort of band does not mean a steel guitar dont fit in !!!!!
And as for mr Knopfler enough said, what an honour to play for them !!! my 2 cents !

Jamie me old mate.....put the clip of "walk of life" for Rick....Show him how Paul complemented that band. Just because Paul didn't do much in that prevoius video don't mean a thing and yes he was enjoying himself. Sometimes as you know even in Country bands, depending on arrangements of a particular song, the band leader may suggest the steel to lay off the entire song

I had the pleasure of seeing the Dire Straits band compliments of Mr. Franklin back in '91 when they came through Vancouver. I was lightly informed of their music thru the radio and wasn't sure what to anticipate (brought earplugs-didn't use them). Once the lights went up and the band started playing, it was a very pleasant walk through a bunch of different kinds of music and formats, full on big band with Paul, down to a small quartet like the beginnings. Lots of Paul on it, on the appropriate spots. Me and a bunch of hairy-legged steel players walked away with big grins on our faces. Thanks again, Paul Franklin, your a class act.

found this little ditty, I think it's great, and shows in 1972, Paul's future was in recording...
