Eric, may I be the first to second your first seconding !Eric West wrote:Thank you Ben.For me, Buddy Emmons is still the foremost steel guitar player.
Rank?
Numero Uno.
Preeminent? you bet.
There has been no one who has surpassed his skill and accomplishments.
I do not believe in this day and age with the many distractions our children have at their disposal, with the absence of music education in our schools, with the disappearance of the music industry as it was...the 3 sets a night 5 nights a week with studio sessions all day long...that there will EVER be anyone who will be able to even comes close in the future. He's the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. -Ben Jones-
If anyone ever reads this, and wonders who first 'uttered' it, you now have the prize.
I was the first one to Second it.
Happy T-Day.

Edited.. no more descriptive phraseologies concerning individuals who are S.G.F. members. I regret having done so in past responses. Such a facade isn't even close to the real person within my grasp. I'll be moving back to the PEDAL STEEL section where personality traits are of little concern. The "FOREMOST STEEL PLAYER" can have at it. I'll turn over a new leaf, and enjoy my own pedal steel that much more...

There's no such thing as the "foremost steel player". Different steel players play in different styles, and whichever is best is according to one's personal choice. There's no right or wrong.
How would you compare Segovia with Chet Atkins ? They're both foremost guitarists, but I would guess that Segovia would have made a mediocre country guitarist, while Chet Arkins would have made a mediocre flamenco guitarist. Both were geniuses in their own right. Both had similar talents, but chose to go in different directions.
