there used to be a couple of videos of Randle Currie playing a millenium on the opry with Ricky Skaggs and Jimmy Dickens but I think they were taken down

Great Jim, and great sound, too. What pickup?

Thank you, Dean.

It's been so long since I selected the pickup (after trying out about 6 or 7 alternatives) that I haven't even thought about it in years and I can't recall what it's called anymore! But here's a pic; I'm sure you'll recognize it -- and when you do, remind me! :)

All the best,
Jim

That pickup looks like a Telonics or a Tone Aligner. (Hi Jim.)

Hi Mike,

You're right: it's a Tonealigner. Thanks for reminding me. Telonics hadn't yet come out with their pickup at the time I got this guitar.

Best,
Jim

Tonealigner is my favorite dedicated humbucker, with the Alumitone close behind (I also like the Bill Lawrence 705, but largely because of its single coil sound).
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

One of the great features of the Millennium (and the Legend and Studio Pro,) is the modular pickup system that lets us change pickups instantly and compare them. I think every builder should license the MSA system and incorporate it into their guitars.

I compared the Tone Aligner and the Telonics, and found them to be very different sounding. As a matter of personal taste, I preferred the Telonics.

I also have an Alumitone, which I like very much. I now have the Alumitone in one guitar and the Telonics in the other.
