I Agree with Brad. Too much reverb will bury you in the mix. I'm not a big fan of delay at all. If the amp has good reverb, thats all I use.

I play non-PSG and use reverb most of the time. My amp is rubbish and the spring reverb sounds brittle so I tend not to have too much reverb in the mix! I like the idea of using reverb as a distance effect but my teeth grate at the hardness of my amp's tone before the reverb tail has faded!

I also have a Boss DD3 which I use for slap-back but always with the reverb off. My choice of one over the other is often the period of the song, if it clearly comes and sounds from the 50's then slap-back is my preferred effect.

If anyone has a copy of Doug Jernigan & Gary Adams early album , just listen to how little Doug used Delay and Reverb. It really shows how good he was ...and still is....without any effects.I am not saying it is bad to use effects but I seem to remember there was a sign in the Pye Studio in London many years ago saying " The more reverb or delay added the less the talent.." Hope I haven't stirred up a hornets nest as I personally quite like a bit of reverb or delay after all it does occur in nature.
