This has floored me and I feel totally gutted. John was so helpful when I was negotiating the purchase of my Carter steel, and I looked to both he and Ann for advice when it was needed. Always it was unstintingly given.

Ann, my deepest sympathies and condolences on a terrible loss. Our community is diminished most significantly by his passing. Geographic distance does nothing to alleviate the sense of loss and shock.

I was so happy to meet You in Bettystown in october. All french steelers of my friends are so sad. But John is a mountain and he will give more many rivers for ever.

Ann, you have my sincerest condolences on this sad loss. John was an important contributor to the whole steel community, as was the Carter company.
