Johnny Paycheck-"The Old Rugged Cross"

Post by Tommy Detamore »

I ran across this at Reso-Nation:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KNbJxlELRc

An awesome and moving rendition, with many country and gospel music luminaries in attendance. Word has it that this was filmed shortly before Paycheck entered the hospital for the last time.

This has particular significance to me, as I sang this at my father's funeral back in April.

Not sure who the steel player is, but it is very nice. Maybe somebody here will know....

Tommy, thanks so much for posting that; one of the greatest of all time songs, done as only Johnny could do it; blessed my heart just to hear him do it, as I'm sure it was blessing him to do it. :) .

Tommy, I think that was Weldon Myrick who was playing steel when all these greats got together. Don't quote me tho! Ray

So that would put this show several years before his death in 2003. Sorry to have spread that inaccuracy folks....

NO ONE could get the emotion out of a slow song gospel or country ballard, like Paycheck. If he could'nt bring a tear to your eye, then you are heartless.
