Ricky Ripoff : Part Trois

Post by Rick Aiello »

I promise ... this is it ( I sure hope).

The last re-do had an issue ... the gap between the magnets was too great. Not enough "juice" being fed to the strings under the gap.

I should have foreseen this ... when I made the old H-Shoes (the last few sets going to Cruztone) ... I purposely made them with virtually no gap.

So back it came ... and I decided to make these things "true Potbellys".

So I milled out more of the fake horseshoes ... ran a "yolk" across the gap ...

Made a taller bobbin and wound it with # 38 to 2.1 K Ohm.

I'll have the other two done by this weekend.

If anyone wants to hear a "Potbelly" pickup (albiet a different shell) ... and are in Cajun Country ... stop by and see ...

The Jambalaya Cajun Band ... with Terry Huval on fiddle and steel guitar.

Rick, you certainly have done it! I have been finally to spend enough time with the unit to get the pickup heights adjusted correctly - and it SOUNDS GREAT! Full tone, lots of adjustment room, the volume of all the strings sound even.

Thanks for all you have done to bring this steel back! I look forward to meeting you one day!

Sorry the photos are gone ... I'm tryin' to redo my website/stuff ... making room, etc.

Tough job considering ...

I spilled a beer on my laptop's keyboard and fried it ... so I'm checking email, etc ... via my wife's office system.

Serves me right for drinkin' Red Strip (Jamaican beer) ...
