Doug Sahm Session Video-”The Return Of Wayne Douglas”

Post by Tommy Detamore »

Doug Sahm in the studio on April 6th, 1999, working on what was to be his last album. Here Doug the band listen to the playback of "Beautiful Texas Sunshine", which had just been recorded. Band members include Bill Kirchen, Ronnie Huckaby, Dan Dreeben, David Carroll, Clay Blaker, and myself.

It is plain to see that even after a lifetime of making music Doug had not lost his exuberance and energy. Who would have ever thought that seven months later he would be gone....

Special thanks to Dan Dreeben for providing this video.

WOW! Thanks Tommy for posting this. "Wayne Douglas" is one of my ALL-TIME favorite albums. Start to finish it is just packed with good music.

Being intimatly familiar with the album, I found it especially interesting that the end of the steel ride was changed according to Doug's ideas that he expressed on this video...the solo that made the album is totally different at the end. Also, I noticed the Leslie effect was also added after this take, again as per Doug's wishes.

It was good to see Clay in there too.

So cool to see this! :D
