I've been getting emails titled "Internet Explorer 7.0 Beta" that say they are from Microsoft. They contain a picture, and if you click on the picture to download "Internet Explorer 7.0 Beta", it will download something to your computer from a strange offshore web site.

This is not from Microsoft. It can't be good. Don't fall for traps like this.

Always go to your microsoft.com to update or download any updates, microsoft has a direct link on your computer in the security center of Windows XP, also for windows vista to run any updates for it, do not download from strange websites, for any other downloads or updates especially for add on's go to totally drivers.com to search for updates, if you have a Dell computer Dell has Bios updates for your computer at their websites, but you must make sure you are at Dell's website and have your computers code to enter for them to send the new Bios to you, they will not download it to your pc, but load it to a disk, hope this helps, all other sites ignore.

Another has the subject "You have recived a greeting card from a friend!" The friend is unnamed, and you're expected to click the link out of curiosity. It downloads a program that runs on your computer, no doubt infecting your machine with a trojan virus.

Never, ever, let an email run a program on your computer.
